Market Articles The Smart Way To Build Your List

As many of you know, Article Marketing is my #1 traffic strategy. After applying the multipliers (search engine data for content sites, affiliate programs for sales sites) and after one-time promotions, my first and most effective method of getting traffic to new sites (and old sites) is submitting articles with a short blurb promoting the site in the resource box.

Many of you just imagined posting articles at EzineArticles.com or GoArticles.com; didn't you? Others imagined hopping over to iSnare.com or ArticleMarketer.com and paying to have articles distributed. Still others imagined pulling out Article Submitter Pro or Article Post Robot and submitting their article using that.

There is nothing wrong with any of these techniques. I use all of them periodically to build my own list. But there is a much, much more powerful method of article marketing. Don't follow the crowd!

First I want you to get a grip on the potential of article marketing and then I want you to get a grip on how small of a slice of the pie the above methods cover. Go to Google and type your one word topic followed by the word "article" and then followed by the word "articles". So if your topic is "widgets", then search for:

widget article

widget articles

Now repeat the above with "ezine", "ezines", "newsletter" and "newsletters". Make a note of how many search results are returned for each.

Now go check out all of those tools we mentioned earlier. How many places do they submit to? 245? 20,000? 20? How do those numbers compare to the numbers you just saw in Google?

How many sites do the tools you use send articles to? 25? 11,000? 15? Compare these numbers to the search result numbers.

Now go back to Google and take a look at some of those places. Notice that most accept outside submissions. Notice that most of those ranked near the top on Google have tons of traffic because of their ranking. Notice that most of those are sites and newsletters that are actually read with interest by those in your target market.

Now look at the places the tools and services send your articles to... Really look... Who really visits EzineArticles.com or any of these other sites?

Go back to your Google search. Do you see any of the articles from those directories on those high quality widget sites? Why didn't they just scrape articles from one of those directories or get articles submitted to them by iSnare or ArticleMarketer.com? Odd; isn't it?

No; it's not odd. Put yourself in the shoes of each party involved. Why would those high quality widget sites want a bunch of duplicate content from an article directory, submission service or submission software?

Most of the folks who are scraping those directories, getting submissions from those services and listed in that article submission software are creating low quality content sites for the purpose of housing Adsense ads. Others are creating their own incestuous directories. Still others are populating thousands of blogs for search engine fodder.

Try to act like one of these site owners. Would you want duplicate content from these article mills on your highly ranked site?

Most people scraping the article sites do so to get content for their low quality content sites for main purpose of using Adsense ads. Others use the articles to create their own useless directories. Still others are filling blogs for search engine bait.If you use those services, directories and submission software you're missing the point.
